Why Are the Largest Food Companies Spending Millions of Dollars Attacking Ethanol While Completely Ignoring Gasoline and Diesel Prices?

            G  GLOVER PARK GROUP'S
     SMEAR CAMPAIGN AGAINST FOOD
 PRICES AND METHANOL PRODUCTION

By SDIII

EUGENE, OREGON--
(May 18, 2008)-- It's been a perfect storm situation for the corn producers, oil companies, and commodities speculators with the methanol producers and the average citizen getting caught in the middle.

A report filed by
ROLL CALL uncovers the who and why behind this smear campaign and I'm sure big oil is jumping for glee.

Glover Park Groups proposal response  is duly noted ..but they would rather not see this become public....TOO LATE NOW.

The Capitol Hill publication Roll Call has revealed that the nations largest food corporations have been waging war on ethanol over the past few months.

Roll CallRoll Call, which obtained confidential documentation of the effort, reported Wednesday, Rising food and fuel prices have led the biofuels industry to take a beating on Capitol Hill the past few weeks. But the pummeling hasn't been by chance its part of a concerted effort spearheaded by the Grocery Manufacturers Association and the Glover Park Group. GMA has been leading an aggressive public relations campaign for the past two months in an effort to roll back ethanol mandates that passed in last years energy bill.

Among the documents obtained by Roll Call was the GMA's proposal request to build a groundswell in support of freezing or reversing some provisions of the 2007 Energy Bill and for the elimination/reform of ethanol subsidies and import restrictions.

Glover Park Groups proposal response included the number one objective to Obliterate whatever intellectual justification might still exist for corn-based ethanol among policy elites.

These documents should be viewed with outrage by every farmer and ethanol producer in the country.

RFA at RFS Hearing

House EnergyAs the House Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality heard testimony regarding the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) on Tuesday, oil hit yet another record high of $122 a barrel.

RFA president Bob Dinneen reminded the committee of that several times during the hearing, having to correct his own pre-prepared remarks, Mr. Chairman, the RFS made sense when you passed it in December and prices were $90 a barrel, Dinneen said. "It makes more sense today with crude oil prices at $120 a barrel. I'm sorry, just while this hearing has been going on, the market has increased and we're now looking at $122 a barrel oil."

Ethanol is the only tool we have today that can address the nations most serious economic issue our dependence on imported oil and the rising price of gasoline and crude oil." he said.

EUGENE, OREGON--(May 6, 2008)-- I just love the way we.. the voting citizens get pummeled by every  pundit in the world about an election outcome. To put it mildly, I feel inundated by all the "experts" who I have never heard of and if I have heard of one it doesn't mean a thing or I would remember who that individual is or was.
With the ramp-up of the media coverage of the upcoming elections , the facts seem to be getting more and more blurred, if there are any facts at all. Yes, the political race is anyones guess at this point but I'm sure the voters in Michigan and Florida have to be feeling like they have been left out..isn't there a constitutional right to vote and be counted?
As I remember with the Florida votes before President Bush was elected, the votes were not fully counted..it was explained away as "they ran out of time" for the counting..that is a travesty. What's it going to be this time around?
Here are some of my favorites from the web today:

(CBS) This story was written by CBSNews.com's Vaughn Ververs and Brian Montopoli.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hillary Clinton's chances of winning the Democratic nomination have become slim to none - and slim looks to be leaving town.

I think the race is probably over, said Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer. But the demolition derby keeps going. I would guess there is going to be real pressure on her to wind it up and I would also guess she'll have a harder time raising money. This week should tell the tale on whether she quits or goes on.

Analysts and pundits aren't the only ones questioning Clintons ability to win the race. I think effectively the race is over, Democratic strategist Ted Devine told CBSNews.com. Someone could theoretically conceive of a route home for her, but I don't see any realistic way for her to win more pledged delegates, more of the popular vote, or attract more superdelegates than she has now.

Devine knows delegates, having served on several Democratic presidential campaigns, including a stint as the delegate counter for Michael Dukakis in 1988. It is effectively an insurmountable lead that Obama holds, said Devine.

If I were Mr Devine, I wouldn't own up to anything with the Dukakis attempt...He (Devine) possibly bailed on that campaign also when it wasn't looking good.

Another one....

ABC NEWS

South Dakota is the home state of George McGovern whose 1972 campaign was Clinton's first job in politics. McGovern endorsed Clinton last year but today, he switched to Obama.
"I don't think that she can mathematically catch up now with enough delegates to win the nomination," McGovern said.
"I don't want to see us Democrats forfeit a chance to change the direction of the country by wounding the candidate that eventually is going to be the nominee," McGovern added, "and that's what happened to me in 1972."

Trying to prevent further defections, Clinton today furtively met with superdelegates on Capitol Hill. She proposed an unlikely path to the nomination that involved:

Winning four out of the last six Democratic contests,

Successfully pushing the party to recognize delegates from disputed contests in Michigan and Florida against party rules,
and winning the support of a vast majority of the remaining uncommitted 250 or so superdelegates, who have been breaking for Obama overwhelmingly .. ABC reports.

Overwhelmingly? How can there be 250 uncommitted superdelegates and still be breaking for Sen Obama??

OK...One more:   FOX NEWS

Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod appeared to be shifting the campaign toward a general election fight, saying McCain has run free for some time now because of Democratic preoccupation with the primary fight.

I don't think we're going to spend time solely in primary states, Axelrod said. We have multiple tasks here.
But Clinton was looking ahead to the final six contests, continuing to court superdelegates and make the case that she will be more electable against McCain.
She's also sticking with her fight to count Michigan's and Florida's delegations, which were stripped because the states held primaries in violation of national party rules. Clinton won both states, though neither candidate campaigned in Florida and Obama wasn't even on the ballot in Michigan.
It is a new day. It is a new state. It is a new election, Clinton said in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

West Virginia votes Tuesday, followed by Kentucky, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Montana and South Dakota.

The response to the
Oregonian's story in Portland, Oregon endorsing Sen Obama to the dismay of some Bloggers on the story:

I'm confused by your endorsement of Obama. I think he may some day make a good president, but he certainly isn't ready yet. Could you give some examples of his leadership? He is a new senator and I'm not aware of demonstrated leadership qualities. He may be inspiring to young folks with his promises, but we oldsters know what happens to promises after elections.

Just for the record, I did some digging about who of the candidates has a better voting record in their current duties on the Democratic side of the equation..

For the same time period of both candidates Sen Clinton showed a better no-voting record over Sen Obama...197 to 232
What this indicates for me is that Sen Clinton has more of a commitment of the responsibilities she has been empowered with..If you need to get to the facts, do some homework on your own. don't always believe the headlines and be sure to vote.

Dear SeQuential Friends,

We are writing this letter to ask for your help.
Most of you have seen the tidal wave of negative media attention that biofuels have been getting recently. Our business is being affected. People are choosing to go elsewhere. SeQuential and our locally sourced, renewable fuels are at risk of becoming collateral damage in the war on corn ethanol.  We need to help people understand that SeQuential is a positive alternative to todays status quo.

While some of the recent criticism raises very real concerns, the broad negative message that all biofuels are bad is inaccurate and damaging to the development of a locally based renewable fuel industry. SeQuential in partnership with our customers, is a leader in developing renewable energy in Oregon:

  • The SeQuential-Pacific plant expansion will enable us to produce and use more biodiesel made from used cooking oil.
  • We are working with Eastern OR and Willamette Valley farmers to grow canola & camelina in rotation with other crops such as wheat, alfalfa and vineyards.
  • We are working with several groups that are developing next generation fuels from a variety of waste materials that will improve the availability of locally produced better fuels for gasoline and diesel powered vehicles.
  • The SeQuential station on McVay Highway is a statement to the entire country about a vision for a better path forward, but a vision that only works with the support of the Eugene-Springfield community.

We named our company SeQuential to reflect the notion that we must start from where we are and work incrementally towards ever better solutions. We need to engage on this topic if we are to build a better future.

We need your help in telling our story! As co-founders of this company, we are personally trying to speak with as many citizens as we can, to help them understand more about biofuels and what SeQuential is doing for our energy future.

Here's where we need your help:  If you know of a group that might be interested in learning more about the Oregon perspective on issues related to biofuels, please point us in their direction. No group is too small and no amount of time is too short. We can speak and do Q & A for 5 to 10 minutes or cover an entire lunch break. It doesn't have to be green or sustainable organizations. We will talk to anyone!

  • Clubs & Associations
  • Neighborhood groups
  • Boards of Companies and Non-profits
  • Classes (we have experience with elementary thru college)
  • Parent-Teacher groups
  • Faith based groups
  • Brown bag lunch meetings at companies

Feel free to please pass this email along to anyone that you know who might be interested.
Thank you for all the incredible support that you have given us so far! We look forward to the opportunity to continue earning your business and support.

    Sincerely,

    Tyson Keever & Ian Hill

          Count Your Incandescent Light Bulbs

I have 27 light fixtures in my home with some still using regular light bulbs..replacing these with CFL's will lower your electricity bill.
If I were using a 75 watt incandecent in all these light fixtures and switched to compact fluorescent lights I would save at least 1.7 kwh of electicity per year or more and would not have to buy as many bulbs over that same year.
This doesn't seem like much but if you multiply 1.7 kwh times the number of households in Eugene..the amount of electricity saved would boggle your noodle and lessen the load on the grid,  EWEB would really appreciate that!
