   U of O--Boise game 2009 OPINION

Eugene, Oregon Sept 5 2009

I can understand that football is a game of skill, talent and agression. There are rules of how the game is to be played and there likewise are rules pre and post game. College football is played with the understanding of those rules in most cases.
It's not a game without emotions just ask Miami and FIU but to avoid bench clearing brawls there are sanctions and penalties in place to contain behavior and fights.
Had the incident happen during the game, LeGarrette Blount would have been suspended for 1 game per NCAA rules but that's not withstanding the additional rules that each school has in place.
I examined what I could in the way of video, pictures, etc as to how and why list even took place, this all started when Bryon Hout slaps LeGarrette Blount on the shoulder and it was not a tap but rather a slap-push in my opinon.
  We know the result..

The Boise Fans:

Well that speaks for it's self, some thought it was real funny.

  The Legal Aspect Courtesy Wikipedia:

"Assault is a crime of violence against another person. In some jurisdictions, including Australia and New Zealand, assault refers to an act that causes another to apprehend immediate and personal violence, while in other jurisdictions, such as the United States, assault may refer only to the threat of violence caused by an immediate show of force.[1][2]

Assault is often defined to include not only violence, but any physical contact with another person without their consent."

What I could tell, Bryron Hout started the actions that left Blount ending it, what was said by Hout to Blount should be publicly known.

  Mitigation:

The continual replay to the fans on the big screen should not have been done as this course of action, in my opinion, incited the fans and and made the situation worst .

Swift action by the University of Oregon indicates to me, and my opinion, was trying to put this to rest as quickly as possible, Good or bad with no regard for the student athlete in question.
I can remember when I slacked at studies in school, was I immediately thrown out of school?..no, I was put on a makeup program and counseled.

  Question:

Since so many elements contributed to this situation, shouldn't this be an opportunity to make some sense of it rather than be swift and decisive, maybe some rule changes how the players enter and leave the field? or what should be done about the trash talking?
Yes, the players are adults, but that does not necessarily mean they have good judgment when emotions are flying high.
